TV Rock stands as one of Australia’s most influential and era-defining names in dance music. Originally formed by Grant Smillie and Ivan Gough, the project helped shape the sound and global rise of Australian electronic music in the mid-2000s.
With a signature style built on big hooks, driving energy, and club-tested production, TV Rock broke through in 2006 with “Flaunt It” featuring Seany B — a record that became a cultural phenomenon. The track held the No. 1 spot on the ARIA charts for five consecutive weeks, sold over 160,000 copies, went multi-platinum, and earned two ARIA Awards, including Best Dance Release and Highest Selling Single in Australia.
Follow-up release “The Others” cemented TV Rock’s place at the forefront of the scene, spending 12 weeks at No. 1 on the Australian Dance Chart, breaking into the ARIA Top 10, and gaining global support including rotation on Pete Tong’s Essential Selection. The record was subsequently signed to UK powerhouse DATA Records, further expanding the project’s international footprint.
During this period, TV Rock became one of the most in-demand remix acts globally, delivering high-profile reworks for artists including Groove Armada, Axwell, Armand Van Helden, Fedde Le Grand, and many more. Their remix of “No Matter What” by Nu Electric was named Essential New Tune on BBC Radio 1, contributing to a run that saw the duo hold seven No. 1 remix positions on the Australian Dance Chart.
As international demand surged, TV Rock toured extensively across Europe, including the UK and Ibiza, while also appearing on major stages and events — most notably closing the MTV Australia Music Awards alongside artists such as Pink, Fergie, and Good Charlotte.
While Ivan Gough has since stepped back from touring, Grant Smillie continues to carry the TV Rock legacy forward — bringing the same energy, musicality, and connection to dancefloors that defined the project’s rise. Today, TV Rock sets blend classic records that shaped a generation with contemporary selections, delivering a sound that feels both nostalgic and unmistakably current.
With chart-topping releases, ARIA recognition, global tours, and a catalogue that still resonates on dancefloors worldwide, TV Rock remains a powerful and relevant force — past, present, and future.
