Get to Know: ALIUS

Melbourne producer/songwriter ALIUS, AKA Sebastian Ivanov has built a sizeable following with finely crafted electronic pop records like 'Impossible To Love You' & 'Fraction' gaining strong support from Spotify's New Music Friday and garnering close to 7 million streams between them.

Now, expertly combining elements of pop and electronica he joins with NSW Central Coast trio Un-Ti to bring to life a truly authentic anthemic crossover moment, 'Caught Up'. So we "caught up" with ALIUS to get to know him a little better.

1. What influenced you into electronic music? What made you want to become a producer?

I actually have always been a pop producer and writer for many many years. I began getting into electronic music even using influences of future bass only a few years ago and was inspired by artists such as Gryffin, the iconic Chainsmokers and Illenium. I loved the concept that genres began crossing over and all music became pop in its own way.

I became a producer naturally from the age of 16. I was into technology, programming and building computers and used to buy those technology CDs with demo programs and came across
a producing DJ program and from there 'it was on'.

2. For anyone who hasn't heard your music, describe your vibe in 5 words.

Emotional, vulnerable, organic, relatable, powerful

3. What has been your biggest accomplishment in your career so far?

I wrote and produced a track for Maybelline New York's 'Colossal Big Shot Mascara' which was aired worldwide and still currently airing.

Also, having reached so many people on YouTube and Spotify and seeing the amazing comments of connectivity has been a huge accomplishment also.

4. What advice would you give to any aspiring producers?

Be humble. Always be true to who you are as a person, because I believe it comes through in your music.
There are so many talented people out there so NEVER stop knocking on doors and keep that drive alive.
I would always get asked 'what is your backup plan, if you can't do your music?' - I respond 'I have no backup as it leaves room for failure'.
Always celebrate the small wins as they are the steps to the bigger wins.

5. Which artists are you digging right now?

Zedd, Anne Marie, Little Mix, Clean Bandit, Lauv

6. How did your collaboration with Un-Ti for "Caught Up" come to be?

I was contacted by the label TMRW and was asked if I could help produce up the track. Straight away I heard the hit potential and instantly said I would love to be apart of this
so ask my label in Sweden to also get involved... from there everything flowed with a positive energy attached.

7. 'Caught Up' is currently riding high on the radio and Shazam charts, what was your reaction hearing it on the radio for the first time?

Thank you... its been amazing! I actually cried. LOL I was shaking and cried most when I heard me announce the track... 'Hey this is ALIUS and you are listening to NOVA'...*queue track*
Such a great feeling to know people are really digging the track :D

8. What do you do when you're not producing?

I am obsessed with going to the gym first off.
I enjoy surrounding myself with my mates who have a positive influence on my life. I recently started reading (couldn't stand it in the past) and always been very much into learning more about myself and growing as a person, so would say that I am a spiritual person fascinated in learning more about me and the universe.

9. How'd you come up with the alias Alius?

It was a quick process... I was wanting an alter ego/alias and felt spelling it different..ALI-US is a combination of me and the people around.

10. What's your favourite song to belt out in the car/shower?

Hands down, Sister act 2 - Lauryn Hill - Eye on the sparrow!
